THE American Civil war had a Great Effect on the Indian Economy, leading to a great Boom in the  Stock market called "SHARE MANIA"  followed by the formation of an informal stock market which followed by the formation of an Informal Stock Market which then transformed into an association of brokers. Hence, the first Stock Exchange in India was born, the Native STOCK and Share  Brokers association.


In  1860-61, the American Civil War broke out totally stopped the supply of cotton from the United States to Europe. The resulting cotton famine led to a large  & unlimited demand on India and India really meant the Bombay Residency where alone the largest stocks were available. In four years, exports doubled from 5,6600 to 11,18,000 bales. This period of the boom was called " SHARE MAINA "
